Throughout three decades this unique recording act has delivered exciting and meaningful rock music. It started in 1977 with the first release of 'Solenoid - Almost Tender' and a core line-up of Jiggs Lee, Doug Ebert, Chas Carlson, and West Foster who were joined by fellow musicians Dave & Bob Rivkin, Leon Kotte, Jeff Roberts, Tony Reklis, Buce McCabe, Roger Dumas, Lonnie Knight, Scott Sandsby, Alan Dworsky, Tom Garvin, Dick Roby, Dan Webb, Brad Schultz, Scott Schmeckpeper, Bruce Kernow, Mark Howard, Jeff Brodnick, Bruce Morgan, Steve Hilt, and Lloyd Forsberg. The follow up album, 'The Flying Boxcars', was released nationally in 1980 with two of the songs, "Get in Line" and "Silver Bird" receiving significant national airplay throughout the country during the summer and fall of 1980.
Major record labels expressed interest in the band, but this was a time of contraction in the music industry. The Flying Boxcars continued to record for another year, but then faded into family life and other careers.
However, the core members of the group never stopped playing music and were often in touch with each other. In 1998 the Flying Boxcars (joined by drummer Mike Stefan) resurfaced with another recording project 'Track Eater', that produced many great songs that received attention throughout pockets of the country. For this latest project, 'Blatant Filler', the Flying Boxcars were joined by keyboardist Glen Manske and created a fun album with powerful lyrics and great musicianship.
"If the Rolling Stones can keep on doin' it- I guess the Flying Boxcars can too." -West Foster
